Mapping Broadway

Broadway Theatre as a Field of Cultural Production

What do settings of a play or musical have to do with its total grosses and the number of Tony nominations it receives? Inspired by Derek Miller’s “Average Broadway” as well as Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory, Mapping Broadway is a digital humanities project which, through an interactive map, tries to reveal the correlation between a play/musical’s settings and its prestige and box office.
